Middlesex County football teams bid to earn state playoff berths

The regular season comes to a close this week for high school football teams across New Jersey.

Middlesex County programs will find out about their state playoff fates and seedings this weekend.

Here is a roundup of high school football programs in the Middlesex County area and where the teams presently stand on qualifying for the NJSIAA playoffs, which begin Nov. 8-9.

 

Colonia High School: Colonia (4-4) is seeking to be one of the final 16 teams selected for the North Jersey, Group 4 playoff field. Colonia is on the outside looking in as it heads on the road to face Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.

Edison High School: Edison (4-5) seeks to be one of the 16 teams to secure South Jersey, Group 5 playoff spot. However, Edison is on the outside of the cut trying to fight its way in. The team is at home to take on South Brunswick on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.

John P. Stevens High School: J.P. Stevens (0-7) will not be one of 16 teams selected for the North Jersey, Group 5 playoff field. J.P. Stevens faces Plainfield High School at home on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. A consolation game has not been scheduled at this time.

Metuchen High School: Metuchen (3-5) is another program on the fighting from the outside to be one of the teams in the 16 spots for the South Jersey, Group 2 playoff. Metuchen goes on the road to battle South River this week on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.

Saint Joseph Regional High School (Metuchen): Saint Joseph (7-1) is one of 11 Non-Public Group 4 teams set to continue on with postseason play at the end of this week. Saint Joseph finishes the regular season with a home matchup against Rahway High School on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.

North Brunswick Township High School: North Brunswick (7-1) is set to be one of the 16 teams that secure a spot in the South Jersey, Group 5 playoff field. North Brunswick is on the road for a matchup with Westfield High School on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.

South Brunswick High School: South Brunswick (5-3) seeks to be one of the 16 teams selected for the South Jersey, Group 5 playoff. South Brunswick is trying to secure one of the final slots and finishes the regular season with a Nov. 1 road contest with Edison High School at 7 p.m.

East Brunswick High School: East Brunswick (3-4) is looking to squeak into one of the last slots of the 16 available in the South Jersey, Group 5 playoff field. East Brunswick faces Perth Amboy High School on the road on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.

South River High School: South River (5-3) is seeking to be one the 16 teams to secure a slot in the South Jersey, Group 2 playoff. South River has a home matchup with Metuche on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m.

Spotswood High School: Spotswood (3-5) seeks to be selected as one of the final teams to secure a spot out of 16 in the South Jersey, Group 2 playoff field. Spotswood faces St. Thomas Aquinas on the road on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.

Sayreville War Memorial High School: Sayreville (2-5) is still seeking to be one of the last 16 teams to secure a spot South Jersey, Group 5 playoff field. This week, Sayreville plays Union High School on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Union.

Old Bridge High School: Old Bridge (7-0) is gearing up to become one of the 16 teams that secures a spot this week in the South Jersey, Group 5 playoff. Old Bridge will be one of the teams selected and faces Carteret High School on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. to finish the regular season.

Monroe Township High School: Monroe (3-4) is seeking to secure one of the last 16 spots in the South Jersey, Group 5 playoff field. Monroe on Nov. 1 has a home contest against Iselin Kennedy at 7 p.m., as Monroe tries to become one of the final teams to secure a spot in the postseason.

Woodbridge High School: Woodbridge (7-0) will be one of the 16 teams to secure a spot in the North Jersey Group 4 playoff. This week, Woodbridge finishes the regular season with a road contest against Bridgewater-Raritan High School on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
