The Navesink Maritime heritage Association will hold a meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Bahrs Landing Restaurant in Highlands. The restaurant is located at 2 Bay Avenue.

Meredith Comi, NY/NJ Baykeeper’s Restoration Program Director, will provide an update on the Baykeeper’s Living Shoreline Project at the Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Earle. Since 2016, oysters have been raised in aquaculture tanks and relocated to the project site in NWS Earle waters.

Comi will describe why and how the oysters got to NWS Earle and what she and her team are doing to bring back oysters to the Jersey Shore. To date, 6,000 oyster castles, which are concrete structures placed offshore where oysters are located, have been installed in Earle’s waters. This project is ongoing.
