Ten Pennington School seniors achieved one of the school’s highest honors when they were inducted into the Cum Laude Society.
The society is the school’s chapter of the international Cum Laude Society organization and recognizes student’s academic achievements.
“It is a tremendous accomplishment because all of these students have taken very rigiorus courses and have succeeded across the board in all of their classes,” Dean of Academic Affairs Scott Peeler said. “There really is no room for error in achieving this honor and really speaks to high and consistent achievement.”
The newest members of the society are Erin Heyeck, Maria Khartchenko, Jenna Kollevoll, Mingjia Liu, Meng Lu, Yaoxin Mo, Deep Patel, Julia Peters, Jenna Soliman and Yiren Zhou. They were all inducted on Oct. 15.
“This is a reflection of high and consistent achievement, so it speaks to a wider audience on what they have accomplished,” Peeler said. “The society really focuses on academic achievement and the message is clear and simple. This one of the many ways we recognize students.”
According to school officials, 10% of the senior class is inducted in the fall, and up to another 10% at graduation; and is determined by grade point average. Only students who are in full-time enrollment at Pennington in grades 10 and 11 will be considered for fall induction and in grades 10, 11 and 12 for spring induction.
The Pennington School has 100 seniors in its 2019-20 class and is a school that educates students from sixth grade through twelfth.
“We want students to aspire to great things and high achievements. We invite every student in our community to be their best academically,” Peeler said. “So when we have the ceremony we want everyone to think about their own high achievements and aspire to it.”
