A group of young athletes were recently honored by the Bordentown Township Committee for their achievements this year.

At an Oct. 28 committee meeting, Mayor Stephen Benowitz presented the Bordentown 12U baseball team with a proclamation to honor its successful season. The Bordentown 12-year-old and under baseball team were district all-stars this season and went undefeated, while winning the District 12 title.

Officials said this particular group of players represent a team that has won the district as 10, 11 and 12-year-olds. The Bordentown Little League 12U players were also the first team in Bordentown’s history to win the District title for three consecutive seasons.

The team represented District 12 by making it to the sectional finals each of the last three years as well, and although the team did not win the sectional finals this year to the eventual runner up, “they still showed character and endurance as they battled through the final out,” Benowitz read in the proclamation.

“The Bordentown Little League 12U Baseball Team demonstrated great sportsmanship and put Bordentown Little League in a recognizable position as a lasting legacy,” Benowitz said.

The Bordentown Township mayor explained that the proclamation was granted to the team for having “achieved outstanding sportsmanship, dignity and skill in playing with such enthusiasm and team spirit have shown that giving their very best while maintaining a good attitude is the key to success.”
