Annual Halloween Candy Buy Back collects 419 lbs. of candy for soldiers

Newman Springs Dental Care in Middletown offered its 9th annual Halloween Candy Buy Back after Halloween. Children brought candy to the dental practice in exchange for $1 per pound turned in, toothbrushes and snacks.

The event yielded 419 pounds of candy. Lucille Springer and Ronnie Miccuilla of American Recreational Military Services will make sure the candy is provided to overseas troops in individualized packages. Employees from the dental practice also donated toothbrushes and floss to the troops.

“The children (who donated their candy) also wrote letters to the soldiers to include with the packages. Most youngsters were willing to part with their candy, with some even turning down the money,” said Dr. Aparna Menon of Newman Spring Dental Care.
