HOLMDEL – Republican Chiung-yin Cheng Liu and Independent Cathy Weber have been elected to three-year terms on the Holmdel Township Committee on Election Day, Nov. 5.

The pair defeated Holmdel’s sitting Mayor Eric Hinds and newcomer Independent candidate Prakesh Santhana for seats on the Township Committee.

According to official election results posted by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Weber received 2,164 votes, Liu recorded 2,082 votes, Santhana collected 2,079 votes and Hinds gained 2,063 votes.

Hinds was seeking his fourth term on the Township Committee and Liu was seeking her first term on the Township Committee after serving three terms on the Holmdel Board of Education. Weber and Santhana were seeking their first terms on the township committee.

Liu and Hinds spoke out after the results of the election were finalized.

Liu said, “It is my great honor to accept this opportunity to serve Holmdel as one of the newest elected Township Committeewomen. First of all, I would like to thank everyone who casted their confident vote for me to make this possible. Second, I deeply appreciate Monmouth County GOP Chair, Mr. Shaun Golden, and Holmdel GOP Chair, Marcy McMullen for believing in my dedication to service and granting me their tremendous support since January. I also want to thank the whole campaign team and all of the volunteers! Without their countless hours of amazing works, I would not have been able to pass the finish line and win the election. Holmdel has such a wonderful community and I’m proud to call Holmdel my home. I look forward to working hard for everyone in town and collaborating with all Township Committee members and all parties involved to focus on key issues that require positive, solution-based leadership, and succeed. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.”

Hinds said, “I always did the right thing for this community and I did the best I could. I feel like I helped a ton of people along the way and I want to thank those that supported me.”

Representatives from Santhana and Weber’s campaign said the candidates declined to comment on the results of the election at this time.
