Issues with how an environmental services company tested for lead in the Hillsborough Township Public School District’s water has raised some concerns with officials
SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council approved a resolution entering into an emergency contract with Universal Technical Resources Inc. to conduct water treatment plant restorations.
The borough’s licensed water operator has recommended emergency repairs and improvements to the borough’s water treatment plant, according to the council agenda.
One of the latest actions taken by the council to address the borough’s recent water issues, the council approved the resolution on Nov. 18 during the council meeting at the Criminal Justice Building.
The emergency condition includes corrosion control testing, assessment and repairs to the water treatment plant and Appleby Tank which requires immediate attention since the conditions have created an imminent danger to the health, safety and welfare of the residents, according to the council agenda.
Borough Administrator Art Londensky said that the Appleby Tank is a 500,000-gallon water tank, located on Appleby Avenue.
With the approval of this resolution, the mayor and council have awarded a contract to Universal Technical Resources Inc. in the amount of $18,460, according to the council agenda.
Londensky said that Universal Technical Resources Inc. has made repairs to the two million-gallon tank at the water treatment plant and is waiting for parts to repair the Appleby Avenue tank in mid-December or early January.
