SOUTH RIVER–The Borough Council approved a resolution agreeing to provide the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) with additional water system samples and analysis.
The DEP has required the borough to provide a significant amount of additional sampling ad analysis of the borough’s water system, according to the council agenda.
Borough Administrator Art Londensky said that this request has been in effect since the borough had the discoloration issue we have been testing seven days a week in eight prescribed locations.
The council approved the resolution awarding Precision Analytical Serivces Inc. with a contract for an estimated amount of $89,700 on Nov. 18 during the council meeting at the Criminal Justice Building.
The appropriate municipal officials have obtained an estimate from Precision Analytical Serivces Inc. for the cost of $690 per day, according to the council agenda.
Londensky said that Precision Analytical Serivces Inc. has been gathering up the samples and analysis from the borough’s water system daily and will continue until the DEP releases the borough from the ongoing testing procedures.
The governing body hereby determines that such an emergency condition affects the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of the borough, according to the council agenda.
