SOUTH RIVER–An early holiday gift to the residents was delivered by the Borough Council.

For this Holiday season, the Borough Council approved a resolution authorizing the temporary suspension of parking meters from Nov. 28 to Dec. 26.

In support of the downtown businesses during the 2019 holiday season and in an effort to help attract shoppers, the borough’s governing body would like to temporarily suspend the requirement to pay parking meter fees, according to the council agenda.

The council approved the resolution during the council meeting on Nov. 18 at the Criminal Justice Building.

Any requirement to pay parking meter fees shall be suspended from Nov. 28 to Dec. 26, with all meters, to be bagged or otherwise covered during this period of time.

Borough Administrator Art Londensky said that all of the parking meters located all along Main Street will be suspected.

Other streets that will have suspected parking meters are going to be Stephen Street, Ferry Street and the municipal parking lot, according to Londensky.

Parking meter fees will be re-enforced on Dec. 27, according to the council agenda.
