Manalapan residents may apply to fill vacancy on school board

There is a vacancy on the Manalapan-Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education and residents of Manalapan have been invited to apply for a one-year appointment on the panel.

James Raffone, who was elected to the board in November 2018 and joined the panel in January, was no longer qualified to be on the board due to the fact that he sold his home in Manalapan and was temporarily residing in another municipality, according to Veronica Wolf, the district’s business administrator and board secretary.

The matter was discussed during the board’s Nov. 19 meeting.

Raffone could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to an advertisement district administrators placed in the Nov. 20 edition of the News Transcript, applications are being accepted to fill the vacant seat. Only residents of Manalapan may apply since Raffone was serving in one of the eight seats Manalapan residents hold on the nine-member board.

An applicant who seeks the appointment must be a U.S. citizen; at least 18 years old; able to read and write; a resident of Manalapan for at least one year prior to the date of appointment; registered to vote in the district; and not directly or indirectly involved in a contract with or a claim against the board.

Applicants must be able to attend a committee of the whole meeting that has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the school district’s administration building in Englishtown. Applicants will be interviewed by the board members at that time. The individual who is appointed will serve during 2020.

In the November 2020 general election, the final year (2021) of the term Raffone began serving in January will be on the ballot. Three three-year terms on the board will also be on the ballot at that time. Any qualified individual may seek the one-year term or a three-year term.

Letters of interest and resumes from qualified Manalapan residents may be submitted to Veronica Wolf, business administrator/board secretary, 54 Main St., Englishtown, NJ 07726, by 4 p.m. on Dec. 10.
