The Monmouth County Division of Consumer Affairs has restarted its community outreach programming, offering seminars designed to educate the public about the latest scams, and how to avoid falling victim to fraud.
Covering a number of topics, from identity theft to phone scams, cyber security and consumer protection, Consumer Affairs Director David M. Salkin is available to speak to groups throughout the year.
“The goal is to prevent residents from falling victim to these scams by alerting them to the latest threats,” Salkin said.

Monmouth County Assemblywoman Joann Downey of Freehold Township thanked the staff, volunteers and board of the Family Resource Network following her acceptance of the nonprofit’s “Legislator of the Year” award at the organization’s recent Impact Awards event, crediting recent progress in the state Legislature to the hard-fought efforts of disability allies and self-advocates throughout New Jersey, according to a press release.
The Family Resource Network is a comprehensive family-focused umbrella of organizations designed to meet the growing need for community-based programs and services to individuals and families with a variety of disabilities and chronic conditions through its three affiliate organizations: Autism Family Services of New Jersey, Caregivers of New Jersey and Epilepsy Services New Jersey, according to the press release. The organization serves approximately 30,000 individuals annually.
Downey chairs the Assembly’s Human Services Committee and said, “A large part of our legislative success has been due to the unwavering support provided by organizations such as the Family Resource Network, which works hard to provide real community-based services in order to meet the unique needs of those with disabilities.”
Downey’s legislative district includes Colts Neck, Freehold Borough and Freehold Township.
Together with the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders, the Monmouth County Division of Planning recently launched the Monmouth County NJ GeoHub website, a community engagement platform that allows residents to download Geographic Information System (GIS) data and explore web maps and applications offered by the County.
“I commend the GIS staff in the Division of Planning for their efforts in housing the entirety of the county’s GIS content on the same website, which will allow for greater data accessibility for our residents,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the Division of Planning. “The long-awaited, two-year project holds popular county mapping tools such as the Grown in Monmouth directories and the county’s Cultural and Heritage Virtual Tours for users to learn and explore.”
Featured GIS content includes interactive web maps and applications to find information about county services and resources, as well as interactive story maps to learn more about the county’s history and culture. Open data download for authoritative GIS sets and external GIS data resources are also available on the GeoHub website, according to a press release.
