Riverton celebrates 100 years of the American Legion in Sayreville

SAYREVILLE – Members of the Riverton mixed use development planned along the Raritan River in Sayreville marked the centennial of the founding of the American Legion in Sayreville and an official flag raising and dedication of the development’s new management and marketing center.

The event on Nov. 19 featured the Sayreville Combined Honor Guard, comprised of members of American Legion Post 211 and VFW Post 4699. Guest speakers included Rev. Clarence Bulluck, executive director of EPIC Community Development Corporation; Sayreville Borough Council Member Mary Novak’ and Larry Bishop, commander of Post 211, according to information provided by Over the Moon Public Relations.

“Our team and members of the Sayreville community were deeply moved by this ceremony,” Riverton Project Executive Kevin Polston said in the statement. “We look forward to continuing this special partnership with the veterans of Sayreville and carrying out their legacy in meaningful ways throughout Riverton.”

The event to celebrate the veterans was the first time that members of the public have been invited onto the Riverton site, which at one time was the location of the Dutch Boy paint plant.
