East Brunswick Library’s Teen Red Cross Club seeks new members

EAST BRUNSWICK–Striving to educate teenagers about the health and medical field, the East Brunswick Public Library Teen Red Cross Club is seeking new members.

Teen Red Cross Club President Liesha Yenduri said the library’s club is the local chapter of the official American Red Cross.

“Our main goals are to host events and awareness programs that provide information about the various aspects of health and medical care in the community to all ages,” she said.

Liesha said the library began offering this club for teens in September 2018.

“This club was started as a way of spreading the ideologies of the Red Cross throughout the library,” Liesha said. “Our founders wanted to offer a place where teens could have fun while they encounter new experiences, work with various people and receive community service hours.”

With more than 30 members, Liesha explained that the club is currently accepting members who are in the eighth grade or above who are hardworking and passionate about helping their community.

“Members will be able to help organize, plan, coordinate and conduct fun programs that will engage everyone in our community and educate them about the ideas of the Red Cross and its goals,” Liesha said. “Volunteers will be able to work with people of different age groups and learn new information about health and the Red Cross.”

The teen club holds monthly meetings at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month in the library’s youth services room, located at 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, East Brunswick.

“This club is great for determined and motivated teens who would like to inform their community about safety and health through appealing programs,” Liesha said. “Not only is it a fun experience to work with a team, but one also receive community service hours and a sense of fulfillment.”
