Monroe driver strikes down traffic light during car crash in East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK – A 29-year-old Monroe Township man reportedly caused an accident that knocked down a traffic light at the intersection of Edgeboro Road and Route 18 in East Brunswick.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 18 around 3:07 p.m. on Dec. 12, according to information provided by the East Brunswick Police Department.

When the vehicle was traveling through the intersection of Edgeboro Road, the driver struck the center median, sending the vehicle into the traffic light, knocking it over onto the southbound side, according to police.  

Another vehicle struck the downed traffic light.   

The driver had minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, according to police. 

The center and right lanes were able to stay open on the northbound side as well as the right lane on the southbound side. The wires and light were able to be removed from the roadway, according to police.
