SOUTH RIVER – A 33-year-old South River man has been charged with the attempted murder of his mother.
Kazufumi Nakatani, 33, of South River, was charged with attempted murder in the first degree and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the third degree, according to information provided by Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Chief Mark Tinitigan of the South River Police Department.
An off-duty corrections officer came upon a woman around 2:38 p.m. on Dec. 13, who was the apparent victim of multiple stab wounds, on the sidewalk outside of her home and called police for assistance, according to officials.
The South River Police responded to the location and requested assistance from the Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team. SORT made entry to the home and apprehended the suspect who would reportedly not answer the door and allow police to enter the home, according to reports.
During the investigation by the South River Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, it was determined that the defendant allegedly stabbed his 60-year-old mother multiple times in the home they shared on Fairview Avenue in South River, according to the statement.
He was being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center as of press time.
