Matawan adopts ordinance authorizing new stop intersection

MATAWAN–The Borough Council adopted an ordinance establishing and creating a stop intersection on Crown Place, Sunset Avenue and Edgemere Drive.

Mayor Joseph Altomonte said that the intersection has no history of accidents or high traffic.

The Traffic Safety Unit of the Matawan Police Department has recommended the adoption of this within ordinance and same has been reviewed by the borough engineer to certify its consistency with applicable traffic and vehicle laws and safety regulations within residential areas, and the appropriate notification has been forwarded to the New Jersey State Department of Transportation, according to the council agenda.

The council approved and adopted the ordinance during the council meeting on Dec. 3 at the Matawan Municipal Community Center.

Stop signs shall be installed at the Crown Place and Sunset Avenue, as well as, the Crown Place and Edgemere Drive, according to the council agenda.

Altomonte said the stop signs will be ordered and up as soon as the 26-day waiting period,  for the ordinance to pass.
