JACKSON – A resident of Lakewood has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following his alleged involvement in an incident in Jackson.
In a Dec. 31 press release, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer stated that Maleek Dorsey, 27, of Lakewood, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon in the wake of a Dec. 29 incident.
On Dec. 29 at about 2 a.m., Jackson police officers responded to the Jackson Crossing retail shopping center, which is located at 21 S. Hope Chapel Road, after receiving 911 calls reporting gunshots.
As the officers were securing the scene at the shopping center, they were notified by Lakewood police that two men had just been admitted to Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, Lakewood, with apparent gunshot wounds, according to law enforcement officials.
The two men were subsequently transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. No additional information was available as of Jan. 2.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Jackson Police Department Detective Bureau identified Dorsey as a participant in the shooting, according to the prosecutor.
On Dec. 30, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Lakewood by the Lakewood Police Department SWAT Team and Dorsey was apprehended at that location. He was processed and placed in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, according to the prosecutor.
