“With the critical support of Trenton Mayor W. Reed Gusciora, our reorganization plan is on track and we have made significant progress in improving operations, finalizing our $405 million capital plan and expanding our workforce,” said Steven J. Picco, acting director of the Trenton Department of Water and Sewer, which operates TWW. “Much work and challenges remain.”

H2Open is an outreach initiative to keep communities informed about the ways TWW is working to provide businesses and residents in its service area with the safest drinking water.

The forums will run for two hours and give local officials and residents a chance to ask questions about their drinking water and the water utility infrastructure, and to obtain information directly from the TWW team, according to TWW administrators.

According to administrators, the forums will provide information about TWW’s six-year, $405 million capital plan, including the $150 million Lead Service Line Replacement Program and corrosion-control project; compliance with state administrative consent orders; labor-force expansion; and TWW’s proposal to raise rates and fees.

The utility will be replacing lead service lines for residents in Lawrence, Hamilton, Ewing and Trenton who connect to TWW service.

Hopewell Township does not have any lead pipes after joining TWW’s system, after the material had been banned in regard to plumbing in 1986.

“I am happy with TWW looking for solutions to the many problems they have. I think communication can be improved,” Hopewell Township Committeewoman Julie Blake said.

According to Blake, 40% of Hopewell Township’s households use TWW (approximately 2,400 homes).

Administrators said TWW supplies an average of 27 million gallons of Delaware River-sourced drinking water per day to 63,000 metered customers and services more than 200,000 people.

TWW’s 683-mile water distribution system has 36,700 lead water service lines and household plumbing fixtures in its service area.

Trenton’s forum will take place on Dec. 30 from 7-9 p.m. at Trenton City Hall, 319 E. State St.

Hamilton Township’s forum is set for Jan. 9 from 7-9 p.m. at Hamilton High School West, 2720 S. Clinton Ave.

Ewing Township’s forum will be held on Jan. 14 from 7-9 p.m. at the Ewing Senior Community Center, 999 Lower Ferry Road.

Hopewell Township’s outreach event will take place on Jan. 21 from 7-9 p.m., at Stony Brook Elementary School, 20 Stephenson Road, Pennington.

Lawrence Township’s forum is scheduled for Jan. 22 from 7-9 p.m. at the Lawrence Senior Center, 30 Darrah Lane East.
