SAYREVILLE – Following damage described as “extensive” from a fire reportedly caused by construction work, a strip club in Sayreville is scheduled to reopen in March.

A fire broke out at all-nude strip club 35 XXXV Gentlemen’s Club (Club 35), 7090 Route 35, on Jan. 10. According to Sayreville Fire Marshall Kevin Krushinski, firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 1:41 p.m. and the fire was deemed under control by 5:53. No injuries were reported from the fire.

Through an investigation, Krushinski stated that the fire was found to be caused by a contractor performing work on Route 35. A backhoe being used by the contractor made contact with a power line that backfired power into the club, downing the line, he said.

After the power line was downed, the power went out and then came back on in Club 35. Personnel inside the club witnessed smoke coming out of the vents and evacuated the building, leading to firefighters being called to the scene, according to Krushinski.

Krushinski said the damage to the club was extensive, with a large hole currently present in the roof.

Despite the damage, representatives of Club 35 have stated that the facility will be re-opened in the coming months. In a social media post dated Jan. 14, club representatives wrote that Club 35 will be operational again in March.

Club 35 has operated in Sayreville since 2007. It replaced the Colosseum, a now-defunct gay nightclub at the same location that uses the same structure as the former tenant.
