Each year, Americans across the country come together on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day to serve their neighbors and communities.
United Way of Central Jersey’s call to service on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 20, asks all Central Jersey residents to work together to fight for solutions to our most pressing problems.
While 1 in 8 New Jersey households has an income exceeding $200,000, 1 in 10 state residents – and 1 in 7 children – live in poverty. The Census Bureau poverty threshold is $25,100 for a family of four. Source: U.S. Census Bureau
This Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, you can help restore financial stability for lower income families by distributing tools and information with United Way. We will also be distributing information about the importance of ensuring that every child is counted in the upcoming Census 2020. An accurate count of the number of children, including infants, is critical to help to direct appropriate federal resources to Central Jersey.
You can help your neighbors get tax refunds and access to low cost health insurance. Last year, UWCJ helped to return $2,300,000 in tax payments to more than 2,000 Central Jersey residents.
