Bordentown City Police: Trenton man in custody after alleged bank robbery

A Trenton man is in custody after Bordentown City Police Department officers responded to a Jan. 14 alleged incident.

Bordentown City Police reported that on Jan. 14 around noon, officers responded to the Investors Bank located at 213 Route 130 in Bordentown for a report of an alleged bank robbery. Once on scene, officers said they obtained the surveillance video of the robbery, and the video showed a male subject wearing a hooded sweatshirt and black ski mask approach a teller’s station.

Police reported that the male passed a note to the teller, demanding money. The subject produced a bag, which the teller filled with cash totaling $6,779 and then fled the area on a bicycle north in the merger of Route 130-206, according to police.

Bordentown City and Bordentown Township police said they searched the area and obtained surveillance footage from several local businesses, which showed the suspect travel to the front parking lot of a local business, place his bicycle in the rear of a Hyundai Santa Fe, and flee the area north on Route 206, according to reports.

Later that evening, Bordentown Township detectives reported that they followed up on potential vehicle leads and located the suspect vehicle in the area of Jarvis Place in Trenton. The detectives observed a male subject enter the vehicle and drive toward Route 29, and Trenton police officials conducted a motor vehicle stop with the suspect vehicle, according to police.

Officials said the driver was identified as the alleged suspect, and Bordentown City police officials took custody of him from the stop. The alleged suspect was observed to still be wearing clothing observed in the surveillance video and possessed some of the cash proceeds, police said.

The suspect was then taken to Bordentown City police headquarters where he was processed and charged with robbery and theft, officials said. He was transported to the Burlington County Jail where he was lodged.

The next day, city police reported that they obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle and residence on Jarvis Place in Trenton. The warrant was executed with the assistance of the Trenton Police Department’s SWAT team. A search of the residence located additional clothing worn by the suspect during the robbery as well as the bag, ski mask, bicycle, and the majority of the missing cash, police said.

The suspect will remain in custody at the Burlington County Jail pending court action, according to police.

The investigation was handled by Detective Justin Lewandowski of the Bordentown City Police and was assisted by Bordentown Township Police Detective Josh Pavlov.
