The offensive firepower of the South Brunswick High School boys’ basketball team was put on full display in front of its home crowd on Jan. 23.
The offensive firepower was in full force when the host team, South Brunswick, stormed to an 82-52 victory over Old Bridge High School.
South Brunswick connected on 10 three-pointers and scored over 80 points for the fourth time this winter to record its seventh victory in the last eight games and improve to 9-3 on the season.
“We have a high ceiling and have high hopes for the season,” said South Brunswick coach Joe Hoehman. “We’re starting to understand our identity. Flying around and causing havoc on defense and then getting out in transition, works for us. We have guys that score in the open floor and guys that can shoot the basketball. It’s been a fun year so far.”
Senior Justin Carbone knocked home four of South Brunswick’s 10 three-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points.
Fellow classmate Devin Strickland finished right behind Carbone with 21 points in the victory. Strickland is averaging a team-high 20.2 points per contest, while Carbone is second with 18.5 points a game.
South Brunswick outscored Old Bridge, 17-8, in the second quarter to take a 32-20 lead into halftime. The Vikings produced 28 points in the fourth quarter to seal up their ninth victory of the season.
Senior Ryan de la Cuesta scored a team-high 18 points for Old Bridge, which fell to 2-11 on the season. Ryan Witte sank 12 points in the loss.
