The allocation of $450,000 for the design of an access ramp from Route 27 onto Route 287 North will benefit motorists traveling between Edison and Metuchen.
“I have been fighting for funding for the I-287/Route 27 ramp for years now and it is great to see the governor listening to our concerns and moving forward on this project that is vital to the safety and quality of life of residents of Edison and Metuchen,” Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak (D-Middlesex) said in statement provided by the members of New Jersey’s 18th Legislative District.
Currently, there is no ramp leading onto Route 287 North from Route 27, forcing trucks to drive through small residential streets in Metuchen and Edison. The ramp will also ease truck traffic in this busy area that causes long traffic jams for local commuters, according to the statement.
“The ramp addition and improvements will improve safety and improve how walkable and enjoyable these towns are for our residents,” Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex) said in the statement. “It will cut down on the traffic, noise, and air pollution in our local neighborhoods.”
“This access ramp is crucial to preserving the integrity of the residential areas of Metuchen and Edison,” Senator Patrick Diegnan (D-Middlesex). “It will significantly decrease the amount of time residents spend commuting to work.”
