EAST BRUNSWICK – East Brunswick Police Officer Reggie Wright, with the support of Officer Bruce Diamond and Chief of Police Frank LoSacco, held a L.E.A.D. Appreciation (Law Enforcement Against Drugs) Night at Hammarskjold Middle School.
Four of East Brunswick’s elementary schools participated in the L.E.A.D. program during the first half of the year. Fifth grade students and their families from Bowne Munroe, Chittick, Memorial and Lawrence Brook were invited to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of their students in the 10-week L.E.A.D. program during a special event held on Jan. 27.
Grade 5 students at Central, Frost, Irwin, and Warnsdorfer will participate in the L.E.A.D. program during the second half of the year.
The L.E.A.D. program is taught by Wright through 10 lessons that focus on character development, goal setting, decision making and consequences, effective communication and peer pressure. After focusing on character development, the program moves into the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco and strategies for making good choices to continue to achieve ones goals.
The next L.E.A.D. Appreciation Night is scheduled for June 1 at Churchill Junior High School.
