EAST BRUNSWICK–The Township Council introduced a $2 million bond ordinance, which if adopted, will provide funding for various capital improvements.
“This is our yearly request for bonding for capital projects, which includes but not limited to modifications to our infrastructure, our buildings, our public works department [which] are in need of dump trucks to ensure that we can plow roads and so on. Some of our utility vehicles are at the end of [their] useful life. So we will be putting those out to auction and I’ll be sure to let you know when we are going to do that. So we would like to replace them,” Business Administrator Joseph Criscuolo said.
The council introduced a $2,061,600 bond ordinance funding various capital improvements on Jan. 27 during the council meeting. The final reading is scheduled for Feb. 10.
“Also there’s the need [regarding] cybersecurity and various other things as I conveyed to you and three years ago that we need to continually invest in our [information technology] infrastructure to the tune of $200,000 a year, which I have requested back then,” Criscuolo said. “We would like to continue to do that because cybersecurity is nothing we can mess around with, it’s very serious.”
Additional public works improvements include the purchasing of four sport utility vehicles, according to the council.
The total cost for the capital improvements is $2,161,680; however, if the bond ordinance gets adopted, the township will only make a $103,080 down payment, according to the council.
Facilities improvements at various locations throughout the township include, but are not limited to: public works building modifications; refurbishment of the police department communication room; implementation of a township wide electronic security access system; modifications to the municipal facility including, but not limited to, new energy-efficient windows and other physical enhancements needed for security and/or structures that need for security and/or structures that need to be replaced; and other facility improvements, according to the council.
As part of the township’s annual Park Improvement/Repair Program, Criscuolo said there will be upgrades at basketball courts, tennis courts and various facilities within the township’s park system.
“There is also the design portion for the traffic signal at Cranbury Road and Fern [Road] which we would like to get started, and that’s in collaboration with the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders,” Criscuolo said.
