North Brunswick Police Department reports reduction in certain crimes for 2019

NORTH BRUNSWICK – The North Brunswick Police Department released its statistics for 2019.

Police officers handled 72,452 incidents, of which 26,205 were calls for service.

There were 1,989 motor vehicle crashes reported and investigated.

There were 1,205 arrests made during the year. Officers conducted 15,194 motor vehicle stops, which resulted in 18,347 summonses being issued.

Residential burglaries reduced 68%. Non-residential burglaries increased 43%.

Burglaries to auto were down 47%.

Shoplifting increased 21.8%.

Motor vehicle thefts reduced 5.6%.

The overall crime index as tracked by the state has decreased 9.5%.

“We are proud to report another year of measurable crime reduction for the residents of North Brunswick. The Police Department takes pride in each one of these statistics, and strives to handle each one of them with professionalism and an appropriate response. We believe that our visibility, response and traffic enforcement come together to lower crime and traffic collision rates for those that reside, and travel through, North Brunswick,” Captain Brian Hoiberg said.
