South Brunswick High School boys' basketball player Ty Murchison scored a game-high 17 points to help the Vikings defeat East Brunswick High School, 64-44, on Feb. 6.

It was an uncommonly slow start for the South Brunswick High School boys’ basketball team, watching East Brunswick High School get out to a six-point lead going into the second quarter of their game on Feb. 6 in East Brunswick off a three-pointer by Dylan McCann before the buzzer.

However, the Vikings got themselves back to their normal selves in the second quarter and went on to roll to a 64-44 victory over East Brunswick to improve to 14-4 on the season.

“We made some substitutions and our guys turned it on in the second quarter,” said South Brunswick coach Joe Hoehman. “We have plenty of guys that can score and knock down shots. It’s a great luxury to have.”

Junior Ty Murchison was a big part of the Vikings’ huge second quarter, scoring nine of his 11 points in the quarter.

Murchison finished with a game-high 17 points in the victory.

Senior Devin Strickland also put in 17 points to the South Brunswick victory, giving him 16 straight games of scoring 10 or more points.

The Vikings saw senior Justin Carbone go off for 10 points in the third quarter to help them get out to a 54-31 lead going into the final quarter of play. Carbone recorded 11 points in the victory.

Freshman Jalen Pichardo led the way for East Brunswick, scoring 10 of his team-high 14 points in the first half.

Teammate Devin Kennedy knocked in eight points for East Brunswick, which dropped to an even 9-9 on the season.
