EAST BRUNSWICK–Tossing out their razors to raise money for cancer research, the East Brunswick Police Department (EBPD) participated in the “No Shave November” effort, extending it through last month.

For the third year in a row, EBPD officers participated in No Shave November to raise money for cancer awareness, prevention, research and education, according to a prepared statement from the police department.

Lt. Frank Sutter said that 71 officers participated in No Shave November from November 2019 to January of this year.

Every participating officer donated an initial $10 to the cause. In an effort to raise more money, officers were able to extend No Shave November for two additional months, according to the police department.

Sutter said the police department was able to raise $3,860 by officers sporting a goatee or full beard that was neat and professional.

Sutter said female officers who wanted to participate were allowed to paint their fingernails pink for the months of participation in support of cancer awareness.

Each year a select panel of EBPD voters select an officer who grew the best beard. Detective Dennis Chieffo was selected as this year’s winner. Last year’s champion, Patrolman Rob Thuring, presented the EBPD “Norris Best Beard” trophy to the new champion, according to the police department.
