Freshman Niyell McCargo was stellar in the victory for the host team, North Brunswick, scoring a team-high 17 points.

McCargo hit a running jumper with seconds left in the first half to help North Brunswick end the half on a 7-1 surge and take a 24-16 lead into halftime.

The buzzer beater got McCargo rolling in the second half, scoring six points in the third quarter to anchor North Brunswick’s 12-3 showing to begin the half.

McCargo finished the night with four points in the fourth period to seal a special victory for the North Brunswick senior players.

“Coach (Mark Zielinski) always tells us at halftime to keep going and not get yourself down if your shots aren’t going in during the first half,” McCargo said. “I just kept driving hard to the basket and try to knock in my layups.”

Junior Adrianna Barnes recorded nine points down in the paint for North Brunswick in the victory, while teammate Megan Farrell knocked in five points in the contest.

Freshman Gaitana Aguilu scored a team-high 17 points for Colonia, which fell to 5-17 on the season.
