The students either sang a song or read poems they had written, according to teacher Subeeka Husnain.

After a welcome by Principal Sidney Dawson, Claribel Cortes, a member of the North Brunswick Township Board of Education, spoke from a former ESL student’s perspective, and the importance and value of speaking more than one language, Husnain said.

The event was sponsored by the North Brunswick Township Education Association.

Fellow ESL teachers Mary Margaret Blicharz and Stephanie Griffin organized the event as well.
