Two men charged with assault on Feb. 13

Two Princeton men have been charged with multiple offenses for assaulting another man and stealing cash from him at a Witherspooon Street house Feb. 13, according to the Princeton Police Department.

The two men, ages 20 years old and 36 years old, were charged with robbery and terroristic threats in the incident, which occurred shortly before 2 a.m, police said. The 20-year-old man was also charged with simple assault.

The 36-year-old man was also charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

The 23-year-old victim told police he became involved in a verbal altercation with the two men and that it escalated.

The younger man punched the victim in the face, and the older man struck him in the face with the grip portion of a handgun, police said. The victim also claimed that the two men stole money from him.

The victim left the house and walked to the Princeton Police Department to report the incident. Police arrested the younger man and took him to the Princeton Police Department headquarters.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department’s SWAT team and Princeton police officers executed a search warrant at the house at 8:20 p.m. Feb. 13. The older man was arrested and taken to the Princeton Police Department.

Both men were later transported to the Mercer County Correction Center.
