Two officers move up the ranks in North Brunswick

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Two North Brunswick police officers were promoted during the Feb. 18 council meeting.

Sgt. Wayne DeGaetano was promoted to lieutenant, while Detective Justin Hansen was promoted to sergeant.

DeGaetano was sworn in on Nov. 18, 1998. He was promoted to sergeant on Aug. 3, 2009. He served in the patrol division, in the anti-crime unit and on the burglary task force, according to information read by Police Director Ken McCormick.

DeGaetano previously worked as a patrolman for the South River Police Department. He also served as a dispatcher in North Brunswick from 1995-97.

He was a first lieutenant for North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1.

Hansen began as a patrolman in August 2011, joined the Detective Bureau in September 2017, and was part of the Juvenile Bureau among other assignments, McCormick said.

He joined the 108th Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard in March 2007. He served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on a base in Qatar. He is currently an active Reservist.

He was recognized by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) for DWI enforcement.

He earned a degree in aerospace engineering while in the Air Force. He also studied for his criminal justice degree at Mercer County College.
