RED BANK – Members of the Red Bank Borough Council have terminated the town’s shared services agreement with the Monmouth County Regional Health Commission.
The contract with the commission will expire on Aug. 31, 2020. Following the termination of the agreement, local public health services will be provided in Red Bank by the Monmouth County Department of Health, according to a resolution which outlines the matter.
According to the resolution, in 2011 the commission entered into a shared services agreement for local public health services with Red Bank.
The resolution goes on to state that “in the best interests of residents and taxpayers, the borough has determined it is more advantageous for the Monmouth County Department of Health to provide local public health services going forward.”
Business Administrator Ziad Shehady said the borough’s agreement with the Monmouth County Regional Health Commission “does not meet all of our needs.”
“We have to have a supplementary agreement … to meet all of our public health needs. This comes at a cost of almost $230,000 a year,” he said.
Shehady said Red Bank will receive more services from the Monmouth County Health Department than it received from the commission and he said the move will save the borough about $100,000 per year.
