Suspects target North Brunswick homeowner, fraudulently claiming they represent the water company

NORTH BRUNSWICK – North Brunswick patrol officers, along with members of the Detective Bureau, responded to the area of Cranbury Cross Road in North Brunswick around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 on a report of a residential diversion burglary.

Two males reportedly knocked on the door, advising the homeowner they were from the water company and were there to check a leak.

Once inside the home, the suspects allegedly advised the homeowner to go downstairs and bang on the pipes; the homeowner came back upstairs to find his home ransacked, according to police.

To verify the legitimacy of utility workers, call 732-545-3200 at any time during the day or night.

Police reported in their statement that In-Line Services is currently doing water meter replacements throughout the township, and that the employees will respond to residences by appointment only and have proper credentials.
