South Brunswick Senior Center / Office on Aging

The following events will be held at the Office on Aging, South Brunswick Senior Center located in the Municipal Complex, Route 522, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.

Movie days: “Harriet,” 12:30 p.m. on March 5; “The Good Liar,” 12:30 p.m. on March 24

A new member mingle will be held from 12:30-1:15 p.m. on March 19.

A St. Patty’s Day celebration will be held on March 12. Lunch begins at 11:15 a.m.; $2.25 cost. Benny Rosa will provide music at 12:15 p.m. A 50/50 raffle will be called at 1:15 p.m. Sign up by March 2.

A program on fraud, scams and financial assistance for Seniors will be held at 12:15 p.m. on March 27. Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker (D-Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex and Somerset) in partnership with the Division of Consumer Affairs and Department of Human Services, will educate senior citizens on avoiding fraud and accessing the state’s financial assistance programs.

Registration opens on March 2 for a trip to Northlandz on April 29. Northlandz is a model railroad layout and museum located near Flemington. The museum also features more than 200 dolls from around the world, a 94-room dollhouse, art galleries and a pipe organ. The 1890s replica narrow gauge steam train rides around the grounds. Lunch will be in a private party room. The cost is $21.50 per person. The bus will depart from Woodlot Park on New Road at 8:45 a.m. sharp.

Seniors are invited to a special viewing of the South Brunswick Student Art Gallery at 10:30 a.m. on April 2. Attendees will be bused from the Senior Center to the school and back in time for lunch. The bus will depart the Senior Center at 10 a.m. sharp. Sign up by March 26.

The topic of Ted Talks will be 12 Truths I Learned from Life and Writing at 12:30 p.m. on March 4, and Why some people are more altruistic than others at 10:45 a.m. on March 18.

Bill Roufberg will discuss famous playwrights at 10 a.m. on Mondays. March 2 is Lillian Hellman, “Watch on the Rhine”; March 9 is Eugene O’Neill, “The Hairy Ape”; March 16 is John Steinbeck, “Of Mice and Men”; March 23 is Tennessee Williams, “The Glass Menagerie”; and March 30 is Woody Allen, “Zelig”

An art lecture with Maurice Mahler will discuss Gustav Klimt at 12:30 p.m. on March 20.

 

A workshop on brain health will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, except the second Tuesday of the month. Dawn Neglia, LSW, will lead the 12-week course. Registration is preferred.

A nutrition lecture on portion control will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 24.

A vision health lecture will be held at 12:15 p.m. on March 2.

A police services lecture will be held at 12:30 p.m. on March 26.

A lecture on varicose veins will be held from 12:30-1:15 p.m. on March 2.

An instructor with Princeton Health will discuss summer emergencies from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on March 12.

Vision screenings will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 19. Appointment necessary.

A blood pressure screening will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on March 17; no appointment needed.
