South Brunswick Viking Closet will present its 9th annual Red Carpet Prom Dress – 50-foot red carpet, strobe lights, Hollywood skyline and all – event from 1:30-5 p.m. on March 21 inside the auxiliary high school gym, 750 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction.
Carla Garcia, who is in her first year heading the effort, said she along with some other South Brunswick High School staff and students have collected prom and formal wear dresses at various locations throughout the community. Some 700 dresses have already been collected and collection continues through March 20.
The dresses, shoes and accessories will be available for students to shop for free at the event. There will be fitting rooms and an area to say “I am red carpet ready as I found my dress.”
The event is open to local high schools and middle schools for junior and senior proms as well as eighth-grade formals. Garcia said they have students from New Brunswick, Monroe, North Brunswick, Milltown and the invitation is open to students in Jamesburg, South River and Perth Amboy.
