Monroe pulls away to score victory in girls’ basketball state tournament

The Monroe Township High School girls’ basketball team pulled away in the fourth period and posted a 58-44 victory over Brick Memorial High School in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 4 Tournament on March 3 in Monroe. 

Monroe, the second seed, outscored 15th-seeded No. 15 Brick Memorial, 23-10, in the final period to pull away.

Madison Carey had a game-high of 19 points, while Brielle Fitzpatrick chipped in with 15 points to contribute to the victory.

Monroe coach Leigh Vogtman is optimistic, but knows that his team has work to do when it plays home in the next round of the state sectional tournament.

“We just have got to be prepared and ready to go,” Vogtman said.

Monroe will play seventh-seeded Hillsborough High School in the quarterfinals of the state sectional tournament on March 5 in Monroe.
