Hopewell Township modifies township operations due to coronavirus

To increase social distancing, Hopewell Township has made modifications to the township operations.

The township announced the modifications on March 13, with the changes scheduled to begin on March 16.

The changes are in response to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Modifications include:

The hours of operation for the Senior Center located at 395 Reading Street in Pennington will be limited to 11a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Mercer County Nutrition Program will continue during those hours of operation.

All other senior programs will be cancelled from March 16-29. Township officials said they will reassess on March 26 and will advise the community

Recreation Department Activities will also be cancelled from March 16 April 12. Refunds will be available, according to officials. Officials will reassess on April 9.

Officials added that all municipal fields will be closed to teams from March 16 April 12.

Township meetings for the twoweek period, March 16-27 will be cancelled with the exception of: Planning Board, Zoning Board, Board of Health and Township Committee meetings. Seating for these meetings will be modified to ensure social distancing.

“Other measures will be implemented to protect the health of the broader public, as needed,” said Elaine Borges, business administrator of Hopewell Township. “The Township Municipal building will be closed to all visitors for the two-week period, March 16-27. Doors will remain locked during the day. Visitation will be by appointment only.”

Anyone needing to get documents to the Municipal building can use the drop box located outside the utility door at the northeast corner of the building.

According to officials, if documents are too large for the drop box, people are asked to call and arrange for a document exchange outside of the building on the covered area by the main doors.

Any outdoor inspections will continue as scheduled.

“I understand that these changes may be disappointing and inconvenient for our community however, these are unprecedented times for all of us. Hopewell Township is committed to providing quality community service that puts the safety of our residents, businesses and our employees first,” Borges said.
