Monmouth Park moves back its opening day

On June 17, Monmouth Park Racetrack welcomed fathers and their families to watch their favorite horses face off against one another on Father's Day.

Monmouth Park will be dark longer than as scheduled.

Monmouth Park announced on March 16 that it will push back its originally scheduled opening day of May 2 to May 23.

The decision was made based on the recommendation given by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention that suggested people hold gatherings of 50 or less people for the next two weeks due to the world-wide spread of corona virus.

Because of the racetrack that is located in Oceanport pushing back opening day, Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC, operators of the racetrack, stated that the track will not open the stabling area for training purposes until May. 1.

The stabling area was originally scheduled to open on April 11, with training set to start on April 15.

As per the conditions stated by Gov. Phil Murphy in his plan to prevent the spread of the world-wide coronavirus, Drazin announced in the press release that the racetrack will stop simulcasting and provide sports betting and that it will close down affectively at 8 p.m. on March 16.
