The search for a new head football coach begins for Howell High School.
On March 13, Luke Sinkhorn announced that he would be stepping down as head coach of the Rebels after six seasons at the helm.
Sinkhorn posted a message on the Howell High School football team’s twitter page, thanking everyone he interacted with in the Howell football community during his team as head coach, and saying that his focus now was to cherish every moment going forward with his wife and four children.

After leading the New Egypt High School football team to three winning seasons from 2011-2013, Sinkhorn was hired by Howell to replace Derek Reichenbecher as head coach and rebuild the Howell High School football program that was 5-15 in two years under Reichenbecher.
Posting two 3-7 seasons to start his tenure as Howell’s head coach, Sinkhorn guided the Rebels to a 6-5 record in 2016 and into the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey, Group 5 sectional playoffs.
The Rebels made it back to the sectional playoff semifinals the next year, going 8-1 in the regular season and finishing the 2017 campaign with a 9-2 record.
The last two seasons have been tough for Howell. Both 2018 and 2019 have ended in 1-9 seasons for the Rebels.
Howell did send Sinkhorn out on a high note, defeating Perth Amboy High School in a NJSIAA Crossover contest on Nov. 17, 27-6.
Sinkhorn was 23-39 in six years as Howell’s football coach.
