EDISON – Remote, online learning may continue for close to a month for students in the Edison Township Public School District.
In a letter to school community members on March 17, Schools Superintendent Bernard Bragen Jr. said “it has been decided that in abundance of caution, online learning for all students will continue at least until our scheduled Spring Break, with the earliest possibility of students and staff returning to school being April 13.”
Spring break is scheduled for April 6-10.
“That date will ultimately be determined by events that continue to unfold,” Bragen wrote.
Online remote learning commenced on March 17 in the wake of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Five people in the township have tested positive for COVID-19.
“Our students will be learning from home every day while they’re away from school, while still under the guidance of their teachers,” Bragen has said, noting learning could include online, paper-based, project-based activities, and/or educational games.
In the letter, Bragen said all unauthorized school personnel are restricted from entering any of the school buildings until further notice. All food distributions and computer device/repairs are based in two central locations on the opposite sides of the township – Edison High School on the south end and John P. Stevens High School on the north end.
“We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to mitigate the impact of this virus, maintaining appropriate education programming for our students and ensuring the safety of the school community,” Bragen said. “Thank you for your continued support as we continue to navigate this evolving crisis.”
