SAYREVILLE – A new president and vice president have been selected to lead the Sayreville School District Board of Education for the remainder of 2020 following the departure of the board president.

On March 17, board members voted to name Anthony Esposito as board president for the year. Esposito succeeds Kevin Ciak, who resigned from the board on March 15 and his resignation was retroactively accepted by board members that evening.

Because Esposito was serving as vice president when he was named president, the position was vacated. To succeed Esposito, board member John Walsh was voted in as vice president.

Esposito has been a member of the Board of Education since 2016. From 2018 until this year, he served three consecutive terms as vice president. 2020 will be his first year as president of the board.

All seven board members present at the March 17 meeting unanimously nominated Esposito to move from vice president to president and affirmed a motion appointing him to the position.

Walsh has been a member of the Board of Education since 2013. As with Esposito, this will be his first year as vice president.

The nomination for vice president was contested between Walsh and board member Lucy Bloom. Walsh won the nomination in a 5-2 vote, receiving votes from himself, Esposito and board members Daniel Balka, Christopher Callahan and Carrie Kenny. Bloom received votes from herself and board member Karen Rubio. A motion to affirm Walsh as vice president was unanimously approved by the seven member present.
