MONROE – Residents enjoyed some recreational activity at Thompson Park – the largest park in the Middlesex County Park System, which is located in Monroe Township and Jamesburg – ahead of Gov. Phil Murphy’s announcement of new restrictions to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic on March 21.
Bathroom facilities and playgrounds were closed to the public.
The new restrictions took effect at 9 p.m. on March 21, which Murphy announced during a press conference earlier in the day.
The new standards for businesses are as follows: Gatherings of individuals, such as parties, celebrations, or other social events, are cancelled unless explicitly authorized by Executive Order 107. Centers for Disease Control guidance defines a gathering to include conferences, large meetings, parties, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies.
Non-essential retail businesses must close storefront and/or brick-and-mortar premises operations while Executive Order 107 is in effect. And all recreational and entertainment businesses must close to the public and personal-care businesses that by their very nature result in noncompliance with social distancing must be closed to the public and remain closed as long as this order remains in effect.
