MONROE – Monroe officials reported 11 new positive COVID-19 cases on March 26, which brings the total number in the township to 29, according to the Monroe Township Office of Emergency Management.
The new cases include a 19-year-old female, a 30 year-old male, a 37-year-old female, two 45-year-old females, a 68-year-old female, a 71-year-old female, a 71-year-old male, a 72-year-old female, a 73-year-old male and a 94-year-old female.
“The COVID-19 threat is deadly real,” Mayor Gerald Tamburro said in the statement from OEM. “Today’s increase in reported cases from Monroe is the result of our recently opened drive-up testing effort as well as expanded testing throughout the state. We should not be afraid of these test results and we must welcome it. We need real facts to know what we are up against.”
Tamburro further stated, “What we know is that our mitigation efforts to shut down many public spaces last week was a critical move and we must all personally recommit to stay home at all costs.
“We are depending on each other more than ever to make sure we flatten the curve as soon as possible. I know we are all filled with anxiety and will be for some time. But we can get through this. We must be kind to our neighbors and continue to lift each other up.”
Officials also announced new testing hours available at the COVID-19 drive-thru testing site at MyInstaDoc on 298 Applegarth Road. The facility will serve pre-registered patients from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and drive-up patients from 1–3:30 p.m. Testing will continue on Saturday, March 28, and Tuesday, March 31.
