PRINCETON – A second Princeton police officer has tested positive for COVID-19, Princeton Health Officer Jeffrey Grosser said on March 29.
The first police officer who tested positive for COVID-19 began to display symptoms on March 22. He took immediate steps to go into self-isolation, Grosser said on March 28.
The second police officer began displaying symptoms on March 20, and immediately took steps to go into self-isolation, Grosser said on March 29.
The test results for a third police officer were still pending, as of press time.
Neither of the two police officers were hospitalized, Grosser said.
The police officers did not write citations or make arrests during the time when they were contagious, and also had little contact with the public. Anyone who had direct contact with the officers is being notified by the Princeton Health Department.
The Princeton Police Department developed a “continuity of operations” plan over the past few weeks, which limited exposure to a small group of officers. The plan minimizes the risk of exposure to the entire police department, officials said.
The officers in the affected group are all under quarantine.
Steps were taken as soon as the police officers reported that they were not feeling well to disinfect all areas of the Princeton Police Department and the patrol cars.
