Aberdeen will still hold annual Easter Egg Hunt despite COVID-19 crisis

Youngsters gather eggs during the Easter Egg Hunt at The New Jersey United Christian Academy, in Cream Ridge, on April 13.

ABERDEEN–Despite the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the township’s annual Easter Egg Hunt will proceed this year, but in a slightly different manner.

On April 8, township officials will be hiding Easter eggs on the front lawns of houses with children up to eight years old. All eggs will be handled with gloves for the health and safety of all residents, according to a prepared statement from the township.

The Easter Bunny will deliver the eggs from 1-4 p.m.

Even though the original hunt has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Aberdeen’s mayor and Township Council want to keep the tradition and spirit alive for its youngest residents by launching an alternative Easter Egg Hunt, according to the statement.

Children are asked to wait until after 5 p.m. to search for their eggs in order to give the Easter Bunny a chance to hide them.

Parents must register their household by April 4.

Participating families must provide their address and how many children are in their household, along with basic contact information in case the township has additional questions, according to the statement.

“We are hoping that this alternative Easter Egg Hunt helps to bring joy to our children’s faces during this difficult time,” Public Information Officer Brittany Shea said in the statement.

To register a house, call Shea at 732-583-4200, ext. 130 or Patty Geyer at 732-583-4200, ext. 129.

Residents can also email Shea and Geyer at brittany.shea@aberdeennj.org or patricia.geyer@aberdeennj.org, respectively.
