A Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad per-diem member has tested positive for COVID-19, the Princeton Health Department announced April 2.
The PFARS member began to display symptoms on March 26 and immediately took steps to go into self-isolation or quarantine, officials said. He is not hospitalized and his symptoms have subsided.
As soon as PFARS was notified, it took immediate action to disinfect the building and the ambulances, which are decontaminated after every use, officials said.
Princeton officials emphasized that although the PFARS member had contact once with the public while infectious, that contact posed “little to no threat of exposure” to the public because the member was wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
All PFARS members who had direct contact with the infected member have been notified and a small group of members are all being quarantined at this time, officials said.
PFARS has employed a “continuity of operations plan” during the past weeks, which served to isolate exposure to a small group of members, officials said. The plan mitigates the risk of exposure to PFARS as a whole.
