EDISON – Spring cleanups in the township originally scheduled for April 18 and 25 and May 2, 9 and 16 are postponed.

Mayor Thomas Lankey said township officials are “taking every possible precaution in our efforts to increase the positive effects of social distancing as we continue to fight this unprecedented pandemic.”

On April 8, all 31 parks, Dismal Swamp and the municipal boat basin in Edison were closed in continued efforts to flatten the curve of the coronavirus.

Lankey, through an Edison Emergency Declaration, made the decision to close municipal parks in concurrence with Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order to close all state and county parks and forests effective sunrise April 8 until further notice.

“Like so many around the world, Edison residents have not been spared the impact of this awful virus and we will use every tool at our disposal to protect all of our friends and neighbors,” the mayor said. “The sacrifices we make now to allow for inconveniences are meant to shorten the time we will all have to spend in isolation and, more importantly, to save lives. Remember, although you have to practice social isolation for the time being, you are certainly not alone.”
