EDISON – The Edison Office of Emergency Management, in a salute to the hard work and tremendous sacrifice made by the staff and employees of Hackensack Meridian Health JFK Medical Center, organized a show of appreciation for their fellow frontline heroes.
The event on April 10 featured police and fire from Edison, Metuchen, Woodbridge, South Plainfield and Highland Park, some ambulances from Woodbridge, as well as the Middlesex County Police and Fire Pipes and Drums. Signs saluting the hospital heroes were donated by Decals by Design in Edison and flowers were donated by Costco in Edison.
Event participants surrounded the hospital, observing strict social distancing guidelines, and offered their appreciation and thanks for hospital staff and employees during this time of crisis.
“We have all seen the impressive work being done at JFK Medical Center and at hospitals everywhere and we wanted to show our appreciation for all that they are doing during these difficult times,” said Edison’s Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Andrew Toth. “I would like to thank our brothers and sisters from surrounding communities who came out to join us and I would also like to thank the corporate sponsors who donated their time and their resources.”
Mayor Thomas Lankey said the frontline heroes at JFK Medical Center are “people taking care of our loved ones during this unprecedented period and, along with our police, fire, paramedics and other first responders.”
“They have stepped up and never backed down,” he said. “So many have felt the impact of this terrible pandemic and, yet, we have seen so many selfless people in the healthcare field continue to make great sacrifices for us all. Today was a chance to simply say ‘Thank You’.”
A similar show of appreciation was held at Hackensack Meridian Raritan Bay Medical Center Perth Amboy in the evening on April 10.
