East Windsor has reported 222 residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 and neighboring Hightstown has reported 39 people who have tested positive for the disease, Mercer County officials announced on April 11.
East Windsor ranks third in Mercer County for the number of residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, county officials said. Trenton topped the list with 327 cases. Hamilton Township reported 285 positive cases.
Meanwhile, 1,567 county residents have been sickened with COVID-19 and 50 residents have died as of April 12, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. They are among the 61,850 New Jersey residents who have COVID-19 and which has proven fatal to 2,350 residents as of April 12.
Mercer County officials said municipal data – the number of positive tests in each town – lags behind state-reported data.
Meanwhile, county officials said municipal health departments are tracking down anyone who came into contact with people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Depending on the amount of contact someone had with an infected person, he or she may be required to go into quarantine for 14 days. Symptoms of COVID-19 appear within two to five days after exposure.
Mercer County has opened an appointment-only, drive-through testing site in a parking lot at the Quaker Bridge Mall, Lawrence Township. The testing site is a collaborative effort between the county and several area hospitals.
The testing site is restricted to Mercer County residents who have shown symptoms of COVID-19 and who have a prescription for the test. The test results are available in 48 to 72 hours.
County residents who have contracted COVID-19 can obtain a combination of drugs to treat their symptoms through a partnership between Greenhill Pharmacy and East Windsor, Hamilton Township and Robbinsville. The pharmacy is on Hickory Corner Road in East Windsor.
The drug combination of hydroxychloroquine sulfate and the antibiotic Zithromax is being made available to county residents who have obtained a prescription for the drugs through their physician.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an emergency use authorization for the drug combination to treat and mitigate the impacts of COVID-19.
